SONATA
While other automakers have given up on family sedans, Hyundai keeps breathing new life into the popular midsized Sonata. For 2026, the automaker has streamlined the Sonata’s lineup to three core offerings, including the new mid-grade SEL Sport. It represents a sweet spot that keeps the occupants extra comfortable with heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and other amenities. Of course, all three trims check the boxes for modern design, a spacious interior for five, and an array of standard safety technologies.
Hyundai includes five years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage and ten years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection for every 2026 Sonata. Buyers also receive three years of complimentary standard scheduled maintenance, five years of unlimited-mileage roadside assistance, and complimentary access to Bluelink+ connected services (for emergency help, vehicle monitoring, and other features). This page looks at just the conventionally powered 2026 Sonata. If you’re interested in the Sonata Hybrid, please look for our separate overview.

As mentioned, the lineup for the 2026 Hyundai Sonata consists of three trims: SE, SEL Sport, and N Line. The SE and SEL Sport have a 191-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The performance-focused N Line moves up to a turbocharged 290-horsepower 2.5-liter unit that works with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Every trim comes with front-wheel drive (FWD), but all-wheel drive (AWD) is optional on the SEL Sport.
The EPA-estimated fuel economy varies by trim and powertrain. The SE is rated to achieve 28 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway. With FWD, the SEL Sport achieves an estimated 25 mpg around town and 36 mpg on the open road (AWD changes those ratings to 24 city/33 highway). N Line buyers can expect 23 mpg in urban driving and 32 mpg on the highway.
Standard Features
The SE’s equipment roster contains proximity keyless entry, premium cloth upholstery, automatic LED headlights, push-button ignition, a hands-free trunk release, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, power side-view mirrors, a 4.2-inch driver information display, sound-reducing windshield glass, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, two USB ports, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The SEL Sport adds upscale touches such as heated front seats, wireless device charging, an eight-way power driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated power side-view mirrors, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, sound-reducing front side-window glass, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
To support the N Line’s more robust performance capabilities, Hyundai gives it a sport-tuned suspension, upgraded power steering, aluminum sport pedals, a twin-tip dual exhaust, and 19-inch alloy wheels. This top-of-the-line Sonata’s other upgrades include a panoramic sunroof, trim-specific sport seats with microfiber inserts, a 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster, fender-mounted LED turn-signal indicators, trim-specific design elements, a digital key, ambient cabin lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and second-row air vents.
Advanced Driver Aids and Safety Technology
Hyundai SmartSense is standard on every 2026 Sonata. It consists of forward collision-avoidance assist (with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction turning detection), lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, driver attention warning, rear occupant alert, and safe exit warning. Highway driving assist is found only on the N Line. Other safety essentials for each trim include a rearview monitor with parking guidance, a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and hill start assist.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system graces the dash of each ’26 Sonata trim. Its universal components are Bluetooth, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, and access to Bluelink+ connected services. The N Line adds navigation, voice recognition, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Audio in the SE and SEL Sport is channeled through a six-speaker sound system, with the N Line is improved with a 12-speaker Bose setup.
