2025 Hyundai Elantra Hero

A compact sedan is usually an entry-level car that may sacrifice standard features or interior space to reflect a more affordable price tag. That said, the Hyundai Elantra is not your typical compact sedan. Its 38 inches of rear legroom leads its class, and its headroom (front and rear) is also near the top of the segment. The Elantra's pleasing fuel economy (36 combined city/highway mpg) is matched only by the Honda Civic Sedan. Plus, the base trim, the SE, comes with wireless versions of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and eight driver-assist technologies. And of course, it’s protected by Hyundai's warranty coverage, which has long been known as "America's Best Warranty."

As we said, the Elantra is far from your typical compact sedan. For 2025, Hyundai has added two new trims – the SEL Sport (formerly SEL) and the SEL Convenience (formerly the name of an optional upgrade package) – to increase the feature lists on the lower-cost end of the range.

Trims, Powertrain, and Fuel Economy

The ‘25 Elantra lineup consists of five trims: SE, SEL Sport, SEL Convenience, Limited, and N Line. All but the N Line have powertrain pairing a 147-horsepower, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with a Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission. While the SE has been rated by the EPA to achieve 32 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway, the other three trims with this powertrain return a tad less at 30 mpg city/39 mpg highway.

The N Line comes with a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission; this powerplant makes 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. Its EPA-estimated fuel economy numbers are 28 mpg city/35 mpg highway. Every ‘25 Elantra sedan has a front-wheel drivetrain and a drive mode selector dial with three settings: Normal, Sport, and Smart. We’ll also note that the N Line has 12-inch front brake rotors and a multi-link rear suspension, rather than the standard coupled torsion beam axle.

Standard Features

The SE has automatic LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, power side mirrors, remote keyless entry, cloth upholstery, four USB ports (two front/two rear), a 4.2-inch gauge cluster, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The SEL Sport moves up to 17-inch alloy wheels and adds proximity key entry with push-button ignition, two zones of automatic climate control, trim-specific alloy sport pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and wireless device charging.

The SEL Convenience goes without wireless charging and the leather-wrapping for the steering wheel and shift knob, but it gains a 10.25-inch gauge cluster, a power sunroof, heated front seats, a 60/40-split folding rear seatback with an armrest and cupholders, and heated power-adjustable side mirrors. The Limited has chrome window trim and a dark chrome grille, LED/bulb combination taillights, heated power side mirrors with integrated turn indicators, and hands-free smart trunk release. Inside, look for leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and ambient interior lighting with customizable colors. The N Line distinguishes itself by performance and appearance with a distinct rear fascia with a diffuser, paddle shifters, alloy sport pedals, a twin exhaust outlet with chrome ends, full LED taillights, all-season tires on 18-inch alloy wheels, a unique front bumper, gloss-black side mirrors, upholstery combining leather and cloth, sport-style front seats, and trim-specific leather-wrapping for the shift knob and steering wheel.

Safety and Driver-Assistive Technologies

The Hyundai SmartSense suite is installed on every 2025 Elantra, with even the SE getting forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, driver attention warning, lane following assist, lane keeping assist, blind-spot collision-avoidance warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, safe exit warning, and high beam assist. The SEL Sport, Limited, and N Line are given adaptive cruise control, while the SEL Convenience and Limited add cyclist and junction-turning detection to their version of forward collision-avoidance assist. Highway drive assist is the sole domain of the Limited.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The SE’s 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system brings together wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands-free with voice recognition, and HD Radio. The other trims go to a 10.25-inch touchscreen that isn’t compatible with wireless smartphone connectivity, and therefore you’ll have to plug in manually to use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. These trims are nevertheless upgraded with the inclusion of navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio, Hyundai Pay, and access to Bluelink+ services. While the lower trims have a more basic sound system with six speakers, the Limited and N Line are loaded with Bose premium audio, including eight speakers, a subwoofer, and center channel audio.
