Stay Safe All Year Round With AWD and HTrac Hyundai Vehicles

If you're looking for a vehicle that offers great performance in all kinds of conditions, be sure to check out the new Hyundai models that are equipped with Hyundai's HTrac and AWD technology. These systems provide increased control and great performance in a variety of weather and road conditions, so you can enjoy a safe drive at all times.

Hyundai offers a whole lot more for today's driver than their unprecedented 10-year/100,000-mile warranty. The Korean carmaker's entire lineup is affordable and packed with technology and safety features, and all of their crossovers and SUVs have all-wheel drive available. AWD gives drivers the best of both worlds, using the more fuel-efficient front-wheel drive as conditions permit. But when the "smart" AWD system senses a loss of traction in one or both rear tires, it automatically sends power to the wheel in need to maintain contact with the road. Let's take a look at each of the AWD Hyundai models.

What does All-Wheel-Drive mean?

For New England drivers like us, AWD is a great option. Our weather is unpredictable and the snow really piles up throughout the winter, so we need to be prepared. When your vehicle is equipped with all-wheel drive, you're ready to take on just about anything. If it starts to snow on your drive home or you have to leave for work before the plows get to your neighborhood, you can count on your Hyundai's AWD system (and hopefully a good set of snow tires) to provide the traction and control you need to get to your destination safely.

The Hyundai AWD system is available on a number of different models. It provides increased traction and cornering control by sending torque or applying the brakes to the wheels that need it. This ensures that you can enjoy refined control, great performance and a safe drive. In slippery or difficult driving conditions, all-whee drive can help get you going and keep you going in in mud, sand, snow, and other loose surfaces.  AWD vehicles are especially handy in rapidly changing conditions, because they are responsive enough to react to a road with intermittent snow and ice.

What Hyundai Models have AWD?

The Kona crossover, Hyundai's smallest utility vehicle, delivers excellent fuel economy in both its front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. The base engine AWD Kona is rated by the EPA to achieve 25 mpg around town and 30 mpg on the highway. The AWD/turbo engine upgrade for the Kona is rated for 26 city/29 highway. Every Kona powertrain features a drive-mode selector for Normal and Sport style driving.

The midsized Tucson crossover has a fresh look for 2019, as well as added active safety technology. Like the Kona, it has a choice of two engines, with FWD standard and AWD an option on every trim. The popular Tucson has some notable options, such as heated rear seats and driver attention assist - upgraded equipment that's usually reserved for more costly vehicles. The 2019 Tucson can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

Santa Fe

The more compact of the Santa Fe pair, previously known as the Santa Fe Sport, offers AWD on each of its seven trim levels, and all but the base level are equipped with a drive mode selector. Santa Fe models with the naturally aspirated 185 horsepower base engine can tow up to 2,000 pounds, and those with the upgraded 235 hp 2.0-liter turbo engine can pull up to 3,500 pounds. It's a remarkably well-equipped five-passenger vehicle, which Hyundai calls its "most advanced SUV ever."

Santa Fe XL

The seven-passenger Santa Fe XL is made to move a lot of people in comfort, with all the latest connectivity features, and as safely as possible, especially with the option of all-wheel drive. With three rows and loads of interior volume, it can carry a lot of stuff inside, on the roof (roof side rails are standard and crossbars are optional), or on a trailer - its towing capacity is up to 5,000 lb.
