Trims and Powertrain
The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is a seven-or-eight passenger SUV available in four trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy. The power source is a 3.8-liter V6 that makes 291 hp and 262 lb.-ft. of torque It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard for most trims, except for the Calligraphy, where AWD is standard. Buyers of the other trims can opt for AWD at an added cost. Fuel economy is good for a vehicle this size, with the FWD models returning an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, and AWD models achieving 19 city/24 highway.
Standard Options and Features
The base SE comes with 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated side mirrors, a second-row bench seat (allowing for eight-passenger seating), steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and a rearview camera system. The SEL introduces a sunroof, roof rails, keyless entry and push-button ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, and second-row captain’s chairs (reducing seating to seven). The bench seat can be returned as an option.
Two optional packages are also offered: the Convenience and the Premium. The Convenience Package yields 20-inch wheels, LED taillights, an auto-leveling rear suspension, a hands-free liftgate, rear side-window sunshades, and a wireless device charger. The Premium Package takes the contents of the Convenience Package and adds a heated steering wheel, memory functions for the driver’s seat, a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, heated second-row seats, a power-folding third-row bench seat, leather upholstery, and an in-car PA system. The Limited inherits all of the features from those two packages, along with a dual-pane sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, ambient interior lighting with 64 colors, leg cushion extension for the driver’s seat, ventilated first- and second-row seats, and premium Nappa Leather upholstery. At the top of the range, the brand-new Calligraphy stands apart with its unique wheel designs, distinctive front and rear fascias, a trim-specific grille, a microfiber headliner, and quilted-leather interior door panels.
Safety and Technology
All trim levels get a comprehensive list of standard driver aids, including forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keeping and following assist, rear parking sensors, a driver attention monitor, rear occupant alert, and adaptive cruise control. The SEL also receives a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit assist. With the Convenience Package, front parking sensors can be supplied, while the Premium Package delivers highway drive assist. The Limited gets the front parking sensors and highway drive assist as standard equipment, along with a surround-view camera system and a blind-spot camera.
The SE gets an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, five USB ports, and Rear Seat Quiet Mode, which silences the speakers in the second and third rows. The SEL’s Convenience Package allots third-row USB ports and a 115-volt power outlet, while the Premium Package administers a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with integrated navigation and satellite and HD radio. The Limited embraces those optional features, a premium 12-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, and a head-up display.
