Overview

The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is one of the all-around best vehicles for daily driving, whether you are a solo commuter, have a few kids to shuttle to school and sports, or fall somewhere in between. This well-outfitted crossover continues its fourth generation with small changes to the available options, and the discontinuation of the Ultimate trim. Drivers love the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe for its long list of standard features, nice interior, powerful and efficient engines, and industry-leading warranties. It proves itself to be an undeniable value with tons of entertainment and safety features for every passenger. But while there’s so much to like about the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe, it does face some strong competition, especially considering that it shares its class with the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Kia Sorento, Subaru Forester, and Mazda CX-5.

Pricing and Warranty Coverage

With a starting MSRP of $25,125, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe is less expensive than the 2020 Toyota RAV4, yet the Santa Fe has much better warranty coverage. It gets a 5-year/60,000-mile new vehicle limited warranty, 10-year/100,00-mile powertrain limited warranty, 7-year/unlimited-mile anti-perforation warranty, and 5 years/unlimited miles of 24-hour roadside assistance. Hyundai’s powertrain limited warranty leaves the competition in the dust, as all but one of the rivals mentioned here only offer a 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. The only rival with the same warranties is the related Kia Sorento, which has a slightly higher MSRP.

Mechanical Features and Fuel Economy

All versions of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe come standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 185 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. For the Limited and SEL trims, there is also an available turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that puts out 235 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. All models also come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available. The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe, its cousin the Kia Sorento, and the Mazda CX-5 are the only vehicles in this comparison with a choice of engines; all of the others have a single engine for all trims. Plus, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe’s turbocharged engine makes more horsepower than all of these rivals’ engines. When it comes to fuel economy, the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe gets a respectable 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway – quite good for a vehicle of its size.

Safety and Technology

Each crossover mentioned on this page received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for outstanding all-around safety. However, the Honda CR-V is the only one that did not also receive a 2019 Top Safety Pick+ designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for exceptional scores in government-issued collision tests. Part of the reason these vehicles earn such high recognition for safety is their standard driver-assist technology, with the likes of forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection and lane keeping assist. The 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe stands out, though, by being the only one to come standard with driver attention warning. Despite their other similarities, the Sorento only includes that feature on its highest trims.
