Buy Out of State

There are various reasons why you might consider buying a car outside of your state of residence. Maybe you're looking for a hard-to-find model, a certain color paint and/or interior, or a specific trim level or combination of optional features that you aren't able to locate near home. Or maybe you've just found a better deal farther away as you've been researching cars online. Although some people hesitate to buy out of state, their reasoning is generally based on misunderstanding of the process. There really aren't any tricks whatsoever to buying a vehicle in another state.

The Advantages of Buying from a Dealership

Although most people who come to test-drive cars at Balise Hyundai of Fairfield are, as expected, from Connecticut, we frequently see buyers from New York and even other states. Our friendly and experienced sales and financing staff members are here to answer every question and alleviate any concerns or misconceptions that a potential buyer has. For example, some car shoppers assume that they'll need to pay full sales tax to both the state where they're buying the vehicle and the state they're registering it in, but that's not accurate. You will only need to pay tax to the state of registration.

Another concern that out-of-state buyers have is how they're going to drive their newly purchased vehicle home before it's registered in their state. One of the many advantages of buying from a full-fledged automotive dealership such as Balise Hyundai of Fairfield is that we provide buyers with a temporary registration and plate that's valid for several days-plenty of time for you to get the vehicle home and to your local motor vehicles department to permanently register it. We make the process much easier and hassle-free than buying from a private party.

Perhaps most importantly, we stand behind every vehicle we sell, new or preowned. Buying from a dealership gives you protection that you won't have if you purchase from an individual seller. Peace of mind is invaluable, and we assure you that you can have full confidence in any car, crossover, or SUV that you purchase from us. Our preowned inventory is fully screened for quality and condition, and each vehicle is covered by warranty (the coverage terms vary by individual vehicle).

Emissions Testing

While each state has its own set of standards for emissions levels and the testing process, the great majority of states adhere to California's standards-the strictest in the country. Connecticut is one of those states, which means that all vehicles sold here will meet the requirements anywhere in the U.S. that you need to register it. The flip side of this would be if you bought a car in New Hampshire, which has lower emissions standards, and then tried to register it in a state with higher standards: there would be a possibility that it wouldn't pass and therefore could not be registered.
