The four trim levels for the 2025 Sonata are SE, SEL, SEL Convenience, and N Line. The first three have the base powertrain, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine (191 hp) and an eight-speed automatic transmission. At the top end of the lineup, the performance-focused N Line adds a turbocharger to increase output to 290 horsepower; it also upgrades the transmission to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. While a front-wheel drivetrain (FWD) is the default, the SEL is eligible for all-wheel drive (AWD).
The SE returns the best gas mileage, with the EPA estimating 28 mpg around town and 38 mpg on the highway. The SEL and SEL Convenience come close, achieving 25 mpg city/36 mpg highway (the AWD SEL dips to 34 mpg highway). The higher-powered N Line is officially rated for 23 mpg city/32 mpg highway.
The value-forward SE mixes basic features like fabric upholstery with conveniences such as proximity keyless entry, hands-free trunk release, automatic on/off headlights (LED), push-button ignition, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a 4.2-inch driver information display, power-adjustable exterior mirrors, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, three USB ports, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The SEL raises the stakes with heated front seats, an eight-way power driver’s seat, two zones of automatic climate control, heated power-adjustable exterior mirrors, and 17-inch wheels.
The abundant standard features of the SEL Convenience include Hyundai Digital Key, wireless device charging, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, LED cabin lighting, and 18-inch wheels. Aside from its stronger turbocharged engine and sport-tuned suspension, the N Line looks different thanks to special exterior elements (including the front and rear fascia), sport seats with microfiber panels, a dual twin-tipped exhaust, LED turn-signal indicators on the front fenders, a trim-specific leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum sport pedals, multi-colored ambient interior lighting, HVAC vents for the back seat, and 19-inch wheels.
Hyundai’s well-regarded SmartSense safety-tech bundle comes standard on every 2025 Sonata. It consists of adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, driver attention warning, forward collision-avoidance assist (with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction turning detection), lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, and safe exit warning. Highway driving assist (for improved lane centering and distancing) is added to the N Line. Every trim gets a rearview monitor with parking guidelines, as well as a set of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and hill start assist.
All trims have the same size infotainment touchscreen at 12.3 inches. The system’s standard components are wireless smartphone connection (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The two higher trims, SEL Convenience and N Line, add navigation and dynamic voice recognition. The N Line has the most elaborate sound system, a top-quality Bose unit with 12 speakers, while the rest get a more basic audio setup with six speakers. Access to Bluelink+ connected services is included across the lineup, but just the SEL Convenience and N Line can access Wi-Fi via hotspot.
