Hyundai builds the all-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 N in a singular trim level. Its electric powerplant brings together two motors (a 233-horsepower electric motor unit at the front axle and a 378-horsepower unit at the rear axle) with an 84-kWh battery. Their combined output of 601 hp increases to 641 (and 740 lb.-ft. of torque) for a quick burst when the driver selects N Grin Boost mode, for a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.25 seconds.
For optimal battery performance in varying weather conditions, Hyundai has developed the “drag mode” to ensure an optimal temperature for immediate power use. The contrasting “track mode” creates the lowest temperature to increase the number of laps that the IONIQ 5 N can take. With the rear electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD) and N electronically controlled suspension (ECS), every drive is both compliant and exhilarating.
The 84-kWh battery produces an electric range of up to 221 miles on each full charge, translating into an MPGe rating of 72 combined. With 800V DC ultra-fast charging, the Ioniq 5 N can gain up to an 80% charge in just 18 minutes, while 240V AC home charging results in a charge from 10 to 100% in about 7 hours.
The Ioniq 5 N is built for comfort as well as speed, with heated and ventilated N sport front bucket seats, upholstery in a blend of Alcantara leather and H-Tex, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat with slide and recline functions, dual-automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped heated tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. It also has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless device charging, five USB ports (three front, two rear), Proximity Key entry with push-button start, Hyundai Digital Key capability, 64-color ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a rear center armrest with cupholders. The vehicle’s exterior touches are completed with LED lighting (daytime running lights, headlights, and taillights), Pirelli P ZERO tires, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
SmartSense is installed on every Ioniq 5 N. Those safety technologies consist of adaptive cruise control with curve control (navigation-based), a blind-spot monitor, collision avoidance assist, a surround-view monitor, rear-cross traffic alert and avoidance assist, parking sensors (forward, rear, and side), rear parking collision avoidance assist, forward collision avoidance (with car, pedestrian, and cyclist detection), evasive steering assist, lane keep assist, lane following assist, a driver attention monitor, safe exit assist, highway driving assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and advanced rear occupant alert.
The Ioniq 5 N’s multimedia system is controlled via a 12.3-inch HD touchscreen. Its major features are wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a Bose sound system. EV technology readouts, traffic flow information, and onboard navigation are also viewed on this screen. Hyundai Pay capability and access to Bluelink connected car services come standard as well.
