Under the hood of the 2024 Hyundai Elantra N lies a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 276 hp and 289 lb.-ft. of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while an eight-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters and N Grin Shift is available. The drive-mode selector has settings for Eco, Normal, Sport, N, and Custom. N Grin comes in conjunction with the dual-clutch tranny and provides a power boost of 10 additional horsepower for 20 seconds. The Elantra N is strictly front-wheel drive. According to the EPA’s estimates, it achieves 21 mpg around town and 29 mpg on the highway with the manual transmission, dipping to 20 city/27 mpg highway with the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The 2024 Elantra N is packed with all of the amenities a driving enthusiast could wish for. On the performance front, it features an electronically controlled suspension, launch control, the N Corner Carving Differential (e-LSD), and 19-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires. You’ll also enjoy its roaring variable exhaust system, and when it’s equipped with the dual-clutch automatic transmission, it includes the N Grin Shift power booster. This feature makes an already fun-to-drive car even more so by providing a 10-hp burst off the line by holding it in the lowest gear for 20 seconds.
Beyond those performance attributes, the 2024 Elantra N comes with plenty of equipment to enhance the driver’s and passengers’ convenience and comfort. The highlights are Digital Key, a panoramic sunroof (available only with the automatic transmission), dual LED projector headlights with auto-on/off, LED daytime running lights and taillights, and heated power-adjustable side mirrors with turn-signal indicators. Contributing to both its drive quality and its built-for-speed looks are a wing-type rear spoiler and a matte-black rear diffuser.
As it should be, the cockpit is designed around the driver. The main interior features are heated sport bucket seats with an illuminated N logo, leather upholstery with Alcantara accents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless phone charge pad, push-button ignition, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster with performance readouts (including a shift indicator, lap timer, and N track map), and four USB ports.
The 2024 Elantra N is equipped with a comprehensive array of standard driving aids via the Hyundai SmartSense. This important technology suite includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision warning, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, safe exit warning, and intelligent speed limit assist. A rearview camera with dynamic guidelines is also standard, as are front and rear parking sensors and a full complement of airbags.
The Elantra N’s infotainment system has a 10.25-inch touchscreen that’s used to manage its features (dynamic voice recognition comes standard as a more convenient alternative to controlling the system). In addition to navigation, the system comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a Bose audio unit with eight speakers, and Bluetooth technology for hands-free phone and audio streaming.
