Powertrain, Performance, and Fuel Economy

The 2023 Elantra N is a front-wheel-drive performance hatchback with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 276 hp and 289 lb.-ft. of torque. Hyundai delights driving enthusiasts by building it with a six-speed manual transmission with automatic rev matching – although an eight-speed hydraulic dual-clutch automatic is available. Among the Elantra N’s other track-inspired attributes are a sport-tuned suspension that’s electronically controlled, a rear chassis brace for optimal handling, and the proprietary N Corner Carving Differential, which gives more torque to the outer wheels to reduce understeer and allow for higher-speed turns. It’s also set up with a feature that Hyundai calls N Grin Shift: it’s a unique drive mode that the operator can call on for a 20-second burst of power.

Design and Equipment

The 2023 Hyundai Elantra N comes as a single well-equipped trim level. The car’s exterior shows off a rear wing-style spoiler and black accents, including the front and rear bumpers and side sill moldings. Its racing-inspired attributes include heated contoured front sport seats (front row), leather-and-microsuede upholstery with blue contrast stitching, alloy sport pedals, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S summer performance tires on 19-inch wheels, high-friction brakes with 14.2-inch ventilated rotors in front, a variable dual exhaust, and the Hyundai’s unique performance features mentioned above: the N Carving Differential and N Grin Shift.

The Elantra N is equipped for convenience as well, getting push-button ignition, wireless phone charging, dual-zone auto climate control, automatic headlights (LED), heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn-signal indicators, and the smartphone-based Digital Key. There’s also ambient interior lighting with a palette of 64 customizable colors, and versions with the automatic transmission will also come with a sunroof.

The instrumentation in the Elantra N is noteworthy as well. There’s a high-performance data screen that displays performance information via a shift indicator, a lap timer, and an N track map. The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system has Bluetooth for hands-free phone calls and audio streaming, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD radio, navigation, dynamic voice recognition, and a Bose sound system with eight speakers.

Driver-Assist Technology

Hyundai SmartSense, a grouping of advanced safety features, is standard in the ’23 Elantra N. It includes automatic high beams, driver attention warning, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, safe exit warning, and rear parking sensors. A full complement of air bags is also installed.
