Overview

For more than 30 years, the Hyundai Elantra has offered budget-minded consumers a compelling option for reliable transportation with plentiful features and industry-leading warranty coverage. Now in its seventh generation, the Elantra continues this tradition while taking over as the automaker’s entry-level sedan following the discontinuation of the smaller Accent. But that certainly doesn’t mean that any corners have been cut with this long-popular model.

Besides its generous slate of standard equipment, the 2023 Elantra shows off a cutting-edge design and fuel economy of up to 42 mpg. Buyers can select the basic version, which is outfitted with a full array of features such as advanced driver-assist technology, or they can choose the top-tier option with all of the most premium features. In between those, the mid-grade trim is ideal for any driver looking for the “sweet spot” between practicality and luxury. While the Elantra nameplate also adorns a gas-electric hybrid and the performance-focused Elantra N, this page just discusses the conventional gas-only Elantra.

All 2023 Hyundai Elantras come with America’s Best Warranty, providing unmatched peace of mind with 5 years/60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper protection, 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain coverage, and five years of unlimited mileage roadside assistance. Adding to the Elantra’s exceptional value is three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance.

Trims and Powertrain

For 2023, the front-wheel-drive Elantra comes in three trims: SE, SEL, and Limited. A 147-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine sits under the hood and teams with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The EPA-estimated fuel economy is 33 mpg around town and 42 mpg on the highway; this changes to 30 city/40 highway for the SEL and Limited.

Standard Features

Starting off the Elantra lineup, the SE gets single-zone air conditioning, automatic headlights, LED daytime running lights, power side mirrors, fabric upholstery, remote keyless entry, a 4.2-inch color gauge cluster, a tilt/telescopic steering column, solar glass, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The SEL is upgraded with dual-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, a hands-free trunk release, and 16-inch alloy wheels. The optional SEL Convenience Package will add heated front seats and side mirrors, a power driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless device charging, the Hyundai Digital Key (for keyless entry and starting via smartphone app), an electronic parking brake, 17-inch alloy wheels, and additional safety and infotainment technology (which we’ll detail below). At the top of the Elantra range is the Limited. It includes everything from the SEL with the Convenience Package plus leather upholstery, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, LED exterior lighting, unique exterior accents, heated power side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, and customizable ambient cabin lighting.

Advanced Driver Safety Systems

While many of today’s affordable vehicles have advanced safety technology as standard equipment, the Elantra includes next-level safety systems such as blind-spot collision avoidance assist and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist. Both of those generally cost extra or aren’t available on many other compact sedans. The other standard safety features are forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, high beam assist, and safe exit warning.

The SEL with the Convenience Package and the Limited also get adaptive cruise control and upgraded forward collision mitigation with pedestrian, cyclist, and junction-turning detection. Rear parking sensors, reverse parking collision-avoidance assist, and highway drive assist are only installed on the Limited.

Infotainment and Connectivity

An 8-inch touchscreen is the infotainment epicenter for the SE and SEL, while the SEL with the Convenience Package and the Limited have a 10.25-inch display with navigation. Other standard features include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (the larger touchscreen system switches to traditional plug-in smartphone integration), Bluetooth connectivity, and dual USB ports. An eight-speaker Bose audio system is exclusive to the Limited, while the SE versions get a four-speaker arrangement (six speakers with SEL). SiriusXM satellite radio and access to Bluelink connected services are standard with the SEL and Limited.
