Overview

When it comes to offering value, Hyundai captures the crown, and the Accent is a perfect example. It steps outside the “economy car” label by providing true bang for the buck, not just in features but in looks as well. It’s a subcompact four-door with crisp, modern styling that unenlightened onlookers would think came with a much higher sticker price. Plus, the cabin is surprisingly quiet and spacious. These attributes combine to make the 2022 Hyundai Accent the right answer for budget-conscious shoppers who aren’t seeking to join the crossover craze.

Adding even more value to the Accent is America’s Best Warranty. Hyundai is known for providing this extensive coverage, which gives buyers 5 years/60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper protection and 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. All Hyundai vehicles are also covered by 5 years of roadside assistance and 3 years of complimentary scheduled maintenance.

Trims and Powertrain

The three Accent trims—SE, SEL, and Limited—are all priced low yet packed with standard features. Their powertrain is a 120 horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with an intelligent variable transmission (IVT) manages and a front-wheel-drive drivetrain. Although a manual-shift Accent is no longer offered as of this model year, the IVT (Hyundai’s version of a continuously variable transmission) has a semi-manual mode, allowing the driver to choose between the control of a manual (albeit with no clutch pedal) and the convenience of an automatic. The Accent’s EPA-estimated fuel economy is 33 mpg around town and 41 mpg on the highway.

Standard Features

The SE is all about essentials, and those are all included, of course, along with some upgrades you might not expect at this price point: power side mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, a tilt steering wheel. It also has 15-inch steel wheels with covers, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat with height control, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. The mid-grade SEL improves the wheels to alloys (still 15-inch) and adds automatic headlights, fog lights, heated side mirrors, a tilt and telescopic steering wheel, and a front center console.

The Limited gets loaded up with heated front seats, proximity keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and daytime running lights, mirror-mounted turn-signal indicators, and a hands-free trunk release, a power sunroof, push-button start, a 3.5-inch driver information display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and automatic climate control. Forward-collision avoidance assist—an advanced safety technology—is standard and exclusive to the Limited.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A 5-inch color touchscreen, an audio system with a CD player, four speakers, a USB port, and Bluetooth connectivity make up the SE’s infotainment equipment. The SEL and Limited are upgraded with a 7-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and front and rear USB ports. Access to BlueLink connected services is included with the Limited.
