2019 Hyundai Sonata

Overview

The 2019 Hyundai Sonata offers spacious comfort, a nice list of standard features, and America's Best Warranty (10 years/100,000 miles). Its appearance has been updated for the new model year, and the Eco trim is EPA rated for up to 37 highway mpg and 28 city mpg.

The trims offered are the SE, Eco, SEL, Sport+, Limited, and Limited 2.0T+. Two trims have turbo engines: the Eco has a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder and the Limited 2.0T+ has a 2.0-liter. The four remaining trims are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. A six-speed automatic SHIFTRONIC transmission is found on all (the Eco trim has its own version). All trims receive a rearview camera with a 7-inch color display that it shares with the audio system. The SEL gets a hands-free trunk, and the Sport+ has a heated steering wheel, bolstered sport seats, and other racing-inspired touches. Bells and whistles on the top-of-the-line Limited trim include heated and ventilated leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and LED headlights.

Technology

Standard technology features on all Sonata trims ranges from Android and Apple smartphone compatibility to Bluetooth hands-free capability. There are USB jacks in every Sonata, and wireless phone charging is standard on the Sport+ and Limited 2.0T+, the latter of which also gets a navigation system with an 8-inch touchscreen. A trip computer is standard on all but the two lowest trims.

Safety

The Sonata routinely performs very well in crash tests, earning excellent ratings, and the included safety technologies increase its safety factor considerably. Every trim gets traction control, electronic stability control, a rear-view camera and blind-spot monitor with the added features of lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. Other active safety options are adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, auto emergency braking, and lane departure alert; these all come standard on the Limited 2.0T+ and can be opted for on SEL, Sport+, and Limited.

Passenger Comfort/Cargo Space

Thanks to the most interior space in its class, the Hyundai Sonata has plenty of room for five passengers, and the trunk is nicely sized. Luxury-level upgrades like leather, heated and ventilated seats, floor-mounted rear vents, heated side mirrors, heated steering wheel, and sunroof (tilt-and-slide or panoramic, depending on trim) come standard on the highest trims and some are optional on lower trims.
