2019 Hyundai Kona

The 2019 Hyundai Kona compact crossover offers great fuel economy, nice handling, impressive standard safety features, and affordability - as well as a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. All trims have a drive mode selector that allows for both Normal and Sport driving, and all-wheel drive is available.

Standard Equipment and Engines

The '19 Kona is offered in four trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, and Ultimate. The base SE offers standard features ranging from rear-view monitor with parking guidance to remote keyless entry. The SEL adds heated front seats, a blind-spot monitor, lane change assist, and heated side mirrors. Leather seating and LED head- and taillights come with the Limited trim, and the Ultimate maxes out the features list with parking distance warning, high beam assist, an upgraded 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with navigation, wireless device charging, and a 4.2-inch color vehicle information display (showing speed, fuel consumption, and more). And, thanks to a collaboration with Marvel, there's even an Iron Man Special Edition that pays homage to the comic-book superhero with dark grey and red coloring, specific graphics, and even a Stark Industries-branded navigation interface.

The base engine found in the SE and SEL trims is a 147 hp inline four-cylinder, and it's paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC. The Limited and Ultimate get a turbocharged inline four that makes 175 horsepower; this engine gets a seven-speed EcoShift dual-clutch automatic transmission. Fuel economy is excellent, with the base engine/transmission combo with front-wheel drive rated by the EPA for 27 mpg city and 33 mpg highway (AWD models with this engine get 25 city/30 highway). The turbo engine/7-speed transmission combo with FWD gets 28 city/32 highway (AWD turbo models get 26 city/29 highway).

The standard active safety features on the '19 Kona are many, with crash-mitigating technology such as a rear-view camera, lane keeping assist, forward collision-avoidance assist, and driver attention warning. Higher trims receive additional safety features, including rear cross-traffic collision warning, lane-change assist, and blind-spot collision warning. The vehicle body is strengthened with crumple zones and bodyside reinforcements. Inside, occupants are protected by advanced dual front airbags, side-impact airbags, and front- and rear-mounted side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors.

All Konas get a color touch-screen audio system, with a 7-inch screen on the first three trims and an 8-inch screen on the Ultimate trim, which also receives navigation. The Limited and Ultimate get Infinity premium audio with Clari-Fi. The systems have both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, and there are two USB ports: one for data and charging and the other for charging only. The Tech Package for SEL adds a premium Infinity audio system with eight speakers and external amplifier, shark-fin antenna, the Blue Link Connected Car System, fog lights, a power tilt/slide sunroof, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with lumbar support.
