2019 Hyundai Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra has been redesigned for 2019, beginning another generation as a well-equipped and fuel-efficient compact sedan at a great price - and now with a new, sportier look. It offers a variety of trims to suit everyone's needs, with a fine slate of standard safety and technology features. What's more, old-school shifters will be glad to hear that the base SE is still available in a manual transmission.

All five trims - SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, and Limited - come with Hyundai's outstanding 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, known as America's Best Warranty, plus a 5-year/60,000-mile limited warranty and roadside assistance service. The Eco trim has a zippy 1.4-liter turbo engine (128 hp), and the other four trims have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (147 hp). The EPA's fuel efficiency ratings range from 26 city/36 highway/29 combined to 32 city/40 highway/35 combined for the Eco trim. There will also be a Sport edition with a 1.6-liter 201-horsepower turbo engine, a sport-inspired interior, and a choice of manual or automatic transmission.

Technology and Safety
The '19 Elantra is a safety star, with great crash-test ratings and impressive standard equipment, starting with the Hyundai SmartSense safety suite (forward collision warning with auto emergency braking, lane departure intervention, and more), which all but the base SE receive. All trims are equipped with a rearview camera with a 5-inch screen with color and dynamic guidelines, a blind-spot monitoring system (with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert), front and rear crumple zones, and a full set of airbags, including driver's knee airbag.

An impressive new infotainment system is the touch-screen control hub of phone communication, audio, and travel information; all trims above the SE get an upgrade from the base 5-inch screen to an 8-inch screen. The available navigation system uses bird's-eye view and includes subscription-free real-time traffic data via HD radio; all trims have convenient audio controls mounted on the steering wheel. Wireless device charging comes standard on the top-tier Limited.

Passenger Comfort/Cargo Space
Inside the good-looking '19 Elantra, the instrument cluster, center stack, and gauges have been updated, and a storage tray has been added. All trims save for the highest receive cloth upholstery; heated front seats and dual auto temperature control are standard on the Value, Eco, and Limited. The Value Edition comes standard with a power tilt-and-slide sunroof, and the cream-of-the-crop Limited gets heated leather front seats, and a power driver's seat with power lumbar support. Hyundai has also increased the amount of sound-absorbing insulation in the Elantra, giving it a quieter ride.
